Teachers

Julee Mertz (Chicago)

Julee discovered Lindy Hop in 1997 and was instantly hooked by the music, the sense of community and the energy of the dance. Her adored hobby fast became a full time job. Having traveled the country to learn from the best, Julee now travels herself, teaching the dances of the swing era. Known for her dynamic styling and musicality, she has been a featured instructor at many workshops across the country and around the world.

In Chicago, Julee runs a troupe called Big City Swing that teaches and performs Swing and Lindy Hop. They have also been seen on stage and screen such as Road to Perdition (Dreamworks), Oprah (ABC), Early Edition (CBS), and many more. Julee was also a member of "Swing! The Original Broadway Musical", and toured nationally from Sept 2001 to Feb 2002. After completing the tour, she was asked to return to NYC to train the next touring cast of "Swing!"

Bill Borgida (Austin)

Highly regarded for his teaching skills, Bill's emphasis on connection and technique has had a profound influence on the Lindy Hop scene in the U.S. and abroad for the past 11 years. He has taught around the world and back again - as far away as Sweden, Spain, Singapore, Japan, France, Finland, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, Holland, England, Scotland, Australia & New Zealand. In particular, he has been on the teaching staff at Herrang Dance Camp, Swing Out New Hampshire, Beantown, and the American Lindy Hop Championships (ALHC). He also judges at ALHC, as well as the World Lindy Hop Championship.

Evita Arce (New York City) & Michael Jagger (New York City)

Evita and Michael are full time professional dancers in New York City. They perform all over Manhattan including hot spots like The Rainbow Room, The Waldorf Astoria, and The Plaza at Lincoln Center. They have numerous TV appearances, the most recent being FOX’s, So You Think You Can Dance, where they made it to semi-finals in Las Vegas.

Evita and Michael met in Los Angeles while working for Ryan Francois and Jenny Thomas in the dance company Swing Un-Ltd, and since then they have taught around the globe at events such as Swing Out New Hampshire, Swing Out North West, and Camp Savoy. They currently dance for The Vanaver Caravan dance company as well as The Lindy Hop All Stars in NYC directed by Paolo Lanna and Roddy Caravti, they still jump back and forth between London as members of Swing Un-Ltd, and they are currently working on a project for the BBC with Swing Un-Ltd.

Elaine Hewlett (Dallas)

Elaine began teaching ballroom dance in 1994 and has taught thousands of people to dance in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and around the country. In addition to teaching in DFW, she has taught at workshops around the country including the St. Louis Tap Festival, American Lindy Hop Championship, Oakland Swing Festival, Swing Out New Hampshire, New England Swing Dance Championship, Great Southwest Lindy Fest and Texas Swing Riot. She has also been a consultant for the Dallas/Fort Worth production Rite of Swing, and choreographed for Kitchen Dog Theater's 2003 production of Heaven and Plano Repertory's 2004 production of the musical Swing!, as well as performing in it.

Don West (Dallas)

Don West has been dancing, teaching, and performing in Dallas since 1997. He works tirelessly at building the Dallas and Ft. Worth swing dance communities. He communicates his love for the dance through teaching, performing, and by working with the local performance group, Acme Swing Company. He has been in a number of other dance troupes including Smiley's Lindy Hoppers, Uptown Swing, and began his own troupe called the Madcap Maniacs. Don was also the 2000 American Lindy Hop Jack and Jill Champion in Connecticut as well as first place winner in several local competitions in Texas. He has performed locally here in Dallas at the Dance for the Planet Festival was featured as dancer and swing choreographer for the Cedar Valley College Christmas Musical in 2003.
