A Little About Lindy
Lindy Hop, a dance that evolved from the Charleston, was originally popular in the 1930's. At first glance, it is an 8-count partnered dance. Upon closer examination, Lindy Hop is a visually articulate, constantly evolving dance that gives back as much as you put into it. Lindy offers dancers infinite flexibility in personal and musical expression. Learn more about the history of this dance!
The Project's goal is to give people the joy of Lindy Hop by providing quality instruction to as many people as possible. We build communities within our classes and within the dance scenes we touch.
We have a Wild Goal
By 2016, we will have 1% of Austin aware of all the gifts Lindy Hop has to offer through taking part in a class, social dance or viewing performances or competitions. That's about 7,000 people. If we accomplish this, we believe that Austin will be the healthiest, happiest, (and continue to be the friendliest) community in the United States. Then we take over the world!
Our Process
Dance, and more specifically Lindy Hop, is supposed to be fun. In our classes, we not only teach body movement, connection to a partner, and musical expression, but we inject fun in the dance from day one.
You can't seem to find “the 1” in the music? You can't flip your partner like you've seen in the movies? So what! These are dance classes, not a bar examination. Knowing the steps will get you nowhere if you don't enjoy it.
