Live Performances

In an auditorium or gymnasium, where space allows, a whole team of dancers can give a Lindy Hop performance complete with intricate footwork, crazy kicks, and flips. Where space is more limited, such as in a single classroom a dance couple can give a performance. Our routines include:

  • Lindy Hop
  • East Coast Swing
  • Charleston (partnered or solo)
  • Famous line dances of the 30s & 40s

Educational Perspective

Oral History

Lindy Hop is an integral component of American History and ideal subject matter for Black History Month, physical fitness presentations, or just because. Our dancers can educate your kids about the origins of Lindy Hop in Harlem New York in the late 20s, early 30s. They can visually illustrate its transformation from Charleston and African Dance. Most importantly, they can talk about the "Home of Happy Feet" the Savoy Ballroom.

The Savoy Ballroom had particular significance because, not only was it desegregated, but white and black would intermingle freely for the sake of finding a good partner. This precedence was set by it's unique joint ownership, Moe Gale, a Jewish man and Charles Buchanan, an African-American man.

Vintage Film Clips

Where Audio Visual equipment is available, The Lindy Project can supplement our historical presentation with vintage clips of Lindy Hop, Tap, Charleston and vernacular jazz, including what has been deemed the most spectacular Lindy Hop choreography ever caught on film, "Hellzapoppin," featuring the famous Whitey's Lindy Hoppers.
