Laura began dancing Swing and Lindy Hop in 2001. Since her discovery of this amazing dance, she has dedicated every free moment to improving her understanding of the movement, connection, and music. She has taught in San Antonio TX, Austin TX, Albany NY, San Francisco CA, and Quebec City in Canada and is a featured instructor on iDance.com. Laura has won several Strictlys and J&Js nationwide. She's a dancer that makes people stop in their tracks. Her creativity and musicality have deeply influenced the Austin lindy community.

What to be careful of when taking a class with Laura – she tricked her little sister into eating sand when they were kids. If she tells you it's magic fairy dust that will transform your swingouts… don't buy it! Besides, she makes hair designs in the shower. Who can trust a person like that?

Laura's first taste of partner dancing was on a trip to Finland during a spring festival. A tall older man who couldn't speak English very well asked her to waltz. She stepped on his toes, he ran her into other couples. “Yes,” she thought, “this is the height of romance.” He said her dancing was energicharacaturtastic and she's used that word to describe her dancing ever since. One word she would definitely NOT want her dancing to be described as is “perfect.”

Although she has had a fiery romance with count 5& of the lindy hop basic, they are unfortunately prevented from having a monogamous relationship. Mike Roberts (also an instructor of The Lindy Project) enchanted a ring with a powerful love potion that prevents her from pursuing any other. (Fortunately for 5& she takes the ring off when dancing to avoid injuring her leads during the sugar push).

While free of the rings binding power, Laura wrote this ode to her beloved 5&:

We rotate on the floor.
His hand slips accross my back.
Preparing, I breathe.

Two of Laura's favorite jazz albums: Ellington at Newport and Ella's Songbooks. Two favorite non-jazz albums: Abby Road and Carmina Burana. Laura loves the song “Wink and a Smile,” and we think it also describes her dancing.

Laura's advice to new dancers: “MESS UP CONSTANTLY! Don't ever be nervous about screwing it up big time.”
